In the hamburger shop, I ate a hamburger.It was the biggest one I’ve ever eaten in my life.My eyes fixed the beautiful scenery outside.I was looking forward to shopping,walking about,seeing places,buying souvenirs and so on.I visited many places in the USA.But I like Santa monica pier the best.It is the first place I visited in this trip and the beautiful things I saw there remind me of the good feeling at that time.

(2)The second poem describes a memory about ALT.She came from Canada.I met her for the first time when I was a fifth grade elementary school student.We enjoyed learning English on every Thursday in the multi-purpose room in the school.She was a beautiful woman.I liked her blue eyes very much.She is my favorite English teacher.Her lesson was so fun.We sing many English songs.For example, “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” is still impressive.It was exciting to sing with moving whole bodies.I did’nt know the meaning of lyrics of the songs.But every student including me sing positively.

(3)The third poem describes a moment when I was picked to answer the question by Mrs.Sato. She was an English teacher in the high school.She is so strict.I prepared for her lesson as well as I can because she asked many questions in her lesson and we must stand up if we cannot answer it or we make a mistake.When she say “Stand up” or “Time is up,” she looked happy a little.But the results of English examination were always good because of her lesson.

4「Exchange student from Taiwan」

An exchange student come from Taiwan

We don’t communicate 

In Chinese or Japanese

But English

I take her to some places 

Around my high school

Such as Ashikaga Flower Park and Ashikaga Gakko

At first, I am nervous

But we become close little by little

“English is an universal language”

I really understand its meaning

(4)The forth poem describes a moment I really understood the meaning of ”English is an universal language.”I mean that I could communicate in English with a girl from other country.I was a first grade high school student.

And I belonged to student council. One day, an exchange student came from Taiwan.It was decided that I take her to some places.We visited places around my high school such as Ashikaga Flower Park and Ashikaga Gakko.I was not good at speaking in English ,but she always smiled and said same words slowly or again and again in order to with me. So we could communicate.

5「To remember a name of a vegetable」

I was a pre-schooler

Teachers decide to make children announce names of vegetables in the play

My vegetable is “Cucumber”

It’s only one word and easy word

But I practice again and again

I like the sound of it

(5)The fifth poem describes a memory that I practiced pronunciation again and again.I was a pre-schooler. Teachers decided to make children announce names of vegetables in the annual play. Teachers said to children “You are a radish, you are lettuce….” I was said “Your vegetable is a cucumber!” Looking back now , it is only one and easy word.But I practiced again and again.I thought that cucumber has a unique and funny sound at that time. So I liked it so much.I still remember the memory of that days when I see cucumber.

(6)The sixth poem describes a moment when I wasted time to do worthless activity.I was a third grade high school student.I was in a library room in the school.I read a English newspaper for a long time because Mr.Sato recommended reading an newspaper every day in order to improve my skill of reading English sentences.I trusted her ,and I tried it.But I repented the decision instantly because reading a newspaper was difficult,time-consuming, useless and boring. But I finally had continued its worthless activity for two months. It is a bad memory.

for about two years.When I was a second grade high school student, I bought a vocabulary book.It is “Target 1900.“It is a blue book and just size to have in a hand.I bought it wherever I go, such as school, train, bathroom, bed and so on. When I was a high school student,I had to take a test of English words every week. If I can’t get enough score, I must do homework. So I studied for it by this book.It was my partner.

I like this song ,too

So I choose it

(8)The eighth poem describes a memory when I was a captain of a chorus club in the high school and I chose a favorite song for our final concert.One of  my  favorite American drama is ”Glee.”I rented many DVDs of all stories in a rental video shop.I liked a song”Seasons of Love”the best in it.So I decide to sing it in our final concert in the high school.We members of the chorus club think meaning of its English lyric. There are messages of love and life.I am not good at reading English and but I really understand its meaning.

However I liked it the best.Characters were colorful and cute.They sung and danced with music on TV. We enjoyed singing and dancing with them. The songs which I remember are “Head shoulder knees and toes”, “HELLO”, “ABC” and so on.Sometimes, I still watch it because my cousins are five years old girl and three years old boy.I watch it with them.

Self-introduction

 I’m Kana Kubota.I’m from Kiryu city,Gunma Prefecture.I’m a second year university student.Japanese is my major.I attend Gunma University.I have studied English for about fifteen years. I graduated from Hakuoh University Ashikaga High School.
My hobby is to netsurf.And I like to sing very much.That is why I belonged to the chorus club when I was a high school student.Now I belong to “Dendenmushi Aramaki”,a sign language circle in the university.In addition,I joined regional sign language circles with my mother.Studying sign language is very interesting for me.
I like to travel.There is a place I want to go.It is Hokkaido.So I’m saving money for it and making travel plans.

 

Explanation of my theme of book

The theme of this book is to express my experience.They are based on my memories about “English.”In this book,there are 10 poems based on my memories about fifteen years. The poem of the oldest memory describes the moment when I was a pre-schooler.And the poem of the newest memory describes the moment when I was a third grade high school student.While writing these poems,I noticed that I have touched English in various situation since I was a child.I wrote details like things I saw as well as I could in order to make readers can know that.

My parents are deaf. And my mother can use Japanese sign language. So I was interested in it. In addition to it, my mother studied English sign language”ASL.”I learned it a little by my mother.

9:Exchange student came to my school from Taiwan

I belonged to a student council when I was in high-school. Then, exchange student came to my school from Taiwan. I guided some places around my school such as Ashikaga Flower Park. I used only English to communicate for the first time.

10:The favorite song in Glee “Seasons of Love”

My favorite drama is Glee since I was a high-school student because I like singing a songs. I belonged to a chorus club and I was a captain of it. I choose ”Seasons of Love”which is a important song in this drama to sing at our concert.

1  My first experience of English is TV.「えいごであそぼ」 was my favorite TV program at that time.

2 When I was a pre-schooler, teachers made children remember a name of a vegetable and announce it.

3 My father ‘s favorite artist is Beatles. So I often listened songs of them.

4 When I was a high-school student, I travelled to the Western Coast of America for a school excursion.

Ⅰ.writing my understanding

  Until now, students have been taught second language systematically.As a result,they develop second language’s structural and grammatical knowledge, but it prevents them from understanding how the language is used in the life.

 However, poetry writing can compensate for the shortcomings of traditional second language pedagogy. This article is useful to assert that poetry writing can make second language writers phrase their experience relating to traumatic events. 

 In addition, it represents that poetry writing have an good effect on second language pedagogy not only as a form of literacy, but as a way to explore personal life experiences. 

That’s all.

Ⅱ.the best poem I chose

I chose “Contact” on 127page.

 When The Great East Japan Earthquake shook Japan, I was in the house with my little brother.I was only 13 and and he was only 11.We cried for fear.

We lived apart from my father. My family was me, my brother and my mother. But at that time, our mother was out because of the job. I called her again and again but she didn’t take a phone. We felt lonely. We heared big noises because TV, shelfs and so on were broken.

When I read the poem “Contact”, I rememberd its memory. So I chose the it as my favorite poem. I think that it is important to be able to contact members of family or friends when disaster happen.If we can do it, we can feel relieved.  However if we cannot do, we will think that our family or friends is approached danger.

That’s why I sympathized this poem.
